About the Role
Design interns apply existing skill sets to solve engineering design and development problems while expanding their knowledge base. These efforts may be applied to short or long-term projects, including virtual prototype development, design, testing assistance, and engineering analysis. Candidates must have some CAD experience.
This position involves working individually under the mentorship of a Senior Design Department Mentor and/or with a small team of designers and engineers to execute customer projects across motorsports, automotive, defense, and commercial industries.
Responsibilities
- Vehicle System Design and Development
- Product Design & Development
- Parametric 3D modeling and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing
- Technical writing for reports and specifications using MS Word and Excel
- Creating presentations using PowerPoint
- Understanding basic materials and processes for structural products, including testing techniques to validate product integrity
Requirements
- BS or MS candidate in Materials Science, Mechanical, Aerospace, or Automotive Engineering
- Experience with CAD software (e.g., ProE, Unigraphics, CATIA, Solidworks, IDEAS, Mechanical Desktop)
- Familiarity with structural analysis tools (e.g., Ansys, NASTRAN, Optistruct) is a plus
- Lawful access to ITAR/EAR controlled information (U.S. Citizenship, U.S. Permanent Resident, or ability to meet licensure requirements)
Pay
Pay Range: $18.00 - $37.00 per hour. The range reflects the minimum and maximum target pay for the position across all U.S. locations. Individual pay is determined by experience, education, skills, and equity among team members in similar roles.
