The Design Engineering Team (DE) at Hallmark is a center of excellence for product engineering across Hallmark. We collaborate with key internal and external partners around the world to innovate and build future capabilities for Hallmark. Design engineers are the capability architects and builders that enable our creative counterparts to bring their artistic visions to life. We help deliver strong consumer experiences, product quality, cost-management, and design for manufacturability throughout every stage of the product discovery and development process.

We're hiring a product engineer to support our growing Keepsake Ornaments business. Join a team with years of success in emotionalizing technology as we explore and create new ways to engage and delight consumers with heartfelt, fun, and interactive holiday products.

Responsibilities

  • Be the primary resource responsible for providing the technical expertise needed to discover, inspire, and develop new ornament products.
  • Design solutions that overcome technical and cost challenges within the ornament category.
  • Provide engineering guidance and direction from initial concept through product creation and manufacturing.
  • Develop specifications and direct/produce the completion of technical documents, pre-costs, bid packs, and prototypes based on criteria provided by the Keepsakes product development team.
  • Partner with and be a key linkage to external vendors and technical and innovation resources.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree within an Engineering field (Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical, or related field).
  • At least 1 year of engineering experience through internships, co-ops, apprenticeships, academic projects, or professional employment.
  • Experience with CAD and 3D modeling tools, such as SolidWorks.

Qualifications (Preferred)

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Plastics or Materials Engineering, or a related field.
  • At least 2 years of experience in consumer products, toys, or related product development.
  • Proficiency with CAD tools such as AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
  • Experience with product prototyping and design validation.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical and electromechanical design, manufacturing processes, injection molding, and material properties.
  • Experience with product costing, supplier engagement, and Asia-based manufacturing and supply chains.
  • Strong collaboration, communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

Schedule

This position offers a hybrid work arrangement: in-person collaboration at our Kansas City, MO headquarters Tuesday through Thursday, with remote work on Mondays and Fridays.
