Design/Drafting Specialist

About the role

Join the Antelope Valley District Planning Team as a Design/Drafting Specialist and deliver electrical designs from concept through execution with a high level of independence. You’ll perform complex designs, produce scaled work order maps using AUD, prepare pricing, contracts, and easements, and lead advanced CAD work. Your role will include transforming complex concepts into precise, high-quality drawings that support safe and reliable power systems, mentoring others, driving continuous improvement, and elevating design standards across the organization.

Responsibilities

• Creates accurate and detailed design drawings, diagrams, maps, and plans for utility distribution and telecommunication systems using Computer Aided Design (CAD) software for routine/simple designs using correct mapping symbols, callouts, decals, and proper tie downs (CAD, AUD, etc.).
• Assists with creating visualization deliverables including detailed plans, profiles, schematics, renderings, animations, and documentation to support design review and construction.
• Leverages specifics from geographic surveys, photogrammetry, and geospatial data into drawings and models.
• Completes load flow, short circuit, and power quality analyses to validate electrical system designs.
• Assists with work order costing, labor estimates, and supplemental form completion; updates online service requests.
• Checks planners' redlines for accuracy and completeness.
• Prepares and revises design sketches for proposals and authorizations based on field information.
• Evaluates electrical clearance requirements and ensures designs adhere to all applicable standards and regulations.
• Completes engineering functions and calculations in AUD (e.g., cable pulling, voltage drop, flicker).
• Supports design efforts on smaller scale projects such as residential or small commercial design.
• Ensures the protection of all physical, financial, and cybersecurity assets, and properly accesses and manages private customer data, proprietary information, confidential medical records, and other sensitive information with the highest standards of conduct and integrity.

Requirements

• One or more years of experience in CAD drafting or completion of a CAD certificate (or equivalent CAD coursework).

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with electric utility design.
• Experience with Autodesk Utility Design (AUD).
• Experience with SAP and SharePoint.
• Experience mentoring or training team members.
• Customer service experience.
• AutoCAD Certification.

Schedule

This position’s work mode is hybrid. The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days. The primary work location is the Antelope Valley Service Center. This position has an option for a 9/80 Alternate Work Schedule or 40 hours/5 days a week.
