Art & Creative$52k–$57k/yrFull-time

Schumacher & Co. is an innovative interior design company disrupting the $150 billion global interior design industry. As a technological leader, we push boundaries and strive for excellence with over 500 employees. We design and produce some of the world’s most beautiful fabrics, wallcoverings, trims, furniture, and accessories, united by a passion for design and a drive for quality. Our globally recognized brand serves hospitality, contract, and residential markets through a network of domestic and international showrooms.

This role sits within Schumacher Hospitality, the division focused on elevating hotel, resort, and contract hospitality spaces through Schumacher's fabrics, wallcoverings, and trims.

About the role

Schumacher Hospitality is seeking a Design Coordinator to support our Hospitality design and account teams in New York City. This junior, on-site role is ideal for a recent graduate with a design or textile background who is highly organized, proactive, and eager to gain hands-on experience in the hospitality and contract interiors industry. You will assist with day-to-day design workflows—from cutting for approval (CFA) requests to sampling, memo processing, and coordination—working closely with designers, project managers, and Schumacher’s mills and facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Fulfill strike off and memo requests by cutting fabric, wallcovering, and trim swatches from current stock for designer and client approval ahead of full yardage orders.
  • Log, track, and prioritize incoming CFA requests to ensure fast, accurate turnaround for hospitality clients.
  • Verify colorway, pattern, and dye-lot accuracy before cuttings are labeled and shipped, relying on a sharp eye for color.
  • Package and ship CFAs to clients and design firms, and follow up with the sales team with tracking and key information.
  • Take notes at design and product review meetings.
  • Cut and label memo samples of hospitality fabrics and wallcoverings for team and client review.
  • Process memo orders and sample yardage orders for design-related projects and development.
  • Coordinate sample shipments between mills, showrooms, and offices.
  • Assist with scanning, organizing, and maintaining the digital library of design files, product samples, and memos.
  • Archive past designs and maintain organized version histories of custom artwork.
  • Liaise with Schumacher’s archival team for Hospitality custom design archiving.
  • Learn Schumacher’s Hospitality product range—fabric types, wallcoverings, and printing techniques—by working alongside the design team on live client projects.
  • Rescale and recolor design files, and create design files in simple repeats.
  • Partner daily with designers, account managers, and project managers to support design and development work.
  • Assist the Design Director with collection development and project management.
  • Support the studio with administrative duties, such as setting up vendor meetings, submitting invoices, and general organization.
  • Communicate clearly with mills and print facilities on technical specifications, artwork, and color samples.
  • Support general design, operations, and logistical tasks as needed.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree (recent graduate welcome) in Interior Design, Textile Design, Fine Arts, or a related field.
  • A good eye for color and pattern matching, with high attention to detail.
  • An understanding of, or strong interest in learning, repeats and color separations.
  • Proficiency in spreadsheet software (e.g., Microsoft Excel, Smartsheet).
  • Proficiency in design software (e.g., Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator); experience with AVA is a plus.
  • A good understanding of and experience with techniques and production methods across all textile categories: prints, wovens, wallcoverings, and trims.
  • Strong conceptual and layout skills.
  • Previous experience in design, project or data management, or quality control is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently, multi-task, and prioritize workload under pressure.
  • Willingness to follow directions and execute revisions with a high level of accuracy.
  • A "no-task-is-too-small" attitude and a willingness to pitch in as needed.
  • Fast, efficient, and accurate—comfortable turning around a high volume of requests quickly without sacrificing quality.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple concurrent requests in a fast-paced environment.
  • Clear, professional communication skills, comfortable working with internal teams and suppliers.
  • Detail-oriented with a proactive, solutions-focused approach.
  • A genuine passion for interior design, textiles, and the hospitality industry.
  • Based in, or willing to relocate to, the New York City area; able to work on-site in our office 5 days per week.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary and corporate annual profit sharing.
  • 401(k) plan.
  • Comprehensive health benefits: dental, medical, vision, and prescription drug coverage.
  • Health Savings Account (HSA) and TELADOC.
  • 20 days paid time off (PTO) and 10 company holidays.
  • Bereavement leave.
  • Life insurance, short- and long-term disability.
  • Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA); AFLAC accident and critical illness plans.
  • Parental medical leave and child bonding leave.
  • Pet insurance.
  • Employee discount.
