Responsibilities

Duties involve supervisory and field work, including:

• Leading and managing a team of fire safety professionals.
• Conducting inspections, investigations, and enforcement of fire safety regulations.
• Responding to emergencies and performing extraordinarily strenuous activities under adverse environmental conditions, including running, walking, climbing, jumping, twisting, bending, and lifting over 25 pounds.
• Wearing respiratory protection equipment, including self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), as required by job conditions.
• Ensuring compliance with California Occupational Safety and Health Administration (CalOSHA) regulations.

Requirements

• Must meet one of the following eligibility criteria:
  • Passed the examination for this classification and be on a current certified list.
  • Eligible for lateral transfer or reinstatement.
• Must clear a Background Investigation prior to being hired.
• Must obtain Respiratory Protection Program (RPP) Clearance, including a comprehensive medical evaluation (physical examination, vision, hearing, spirometry, and exercise treadmill tests).
• Must demonstrate above-average physical ability, endurance, and superior condition to perform field work under emergency conditions.
• Must provide employment history on the State Application (STD 678) rather than attaching a resume.
• If meeting Minimum Qualifications with education, unofficial transcripts/diploma must be included for verification. Official transcripts may be required upon appointment.

Pay

$8,907.00 - $12,189.00 per month. New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable.

This position is subject to the Personal Leave Program (PLP) 2025, which temporarily reduces the monthly base pay by 3% in exchange for 5 hours of leave credits through June 2027. The salary ranges shown do not reflect this reduction.

Schedule

Permanent, full-time position. Work location is Sacramento County, with in-office requirements.
