Deputy Sheriff - NC BLET Certified

About the role

The Wake County Sheriff's Office is seeking dedicated individuals to join our team as Deputy Sheriffs. This position is for North Carolina BLET certified law enforcement officers only. If you are not certified in North Carolina and wish to apply for deputy sheriff, please fill out the Deputy Sheriff Cadet application.

Responsibilities

• Provide security for the courts of the State of North Carolina
• Transport prisoners and mental patients
• Serve both civil and criminal process as directed by the courts
• Patrol an assigned area within Wake County, check property, answer call for service, investigate crimes and disturbances as well as arrest violators of the law
• Enforce federal, state and local laws
• Aid other local, state and federal agencies in their law enforcement functions
• Investigate crimes
• Give public presentations
• Work as a School Resource Officer
• Prevent crime
• Perform special assignments or tasks, including undercover and clerical work
• Prepare reports as required by Office policy
• Perform other duties as required by the Sheriff

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED
• No specific experience required
• Valid Driver's License and "safe" driving record
• Successful completion of Basic Law Enforcement Training
• Must obtain a Firearms Certification
• Completion of the Annual In-Service Training for Law Enforcement

Qualifications

• Physical ability to meet and cope with all demands of law enforcement
• Ability to learn and maintain a working knowledge of modern law enforcement practices and procedures
• Ability to obtain a working knowledge of federal, state and local laws
• Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with other employees, officials and the general public
• Ability to qualify and re-qualify with all mandated weapons in accordance with state laws as well as the policies and procedures of the Office of the Sheriff
• Ability to follow directions, learn policies and procedures as well as act independently, using sound judgment in both normal and emergency situations
• Ability to maintain full law enforcement certification

Benefits

Salary for NC BLET Certified Deputy Sheriff begins at $27.26 per hour (approximately $56,696 annually). Incentives are available for education (3%-6%), military experience (2%-3%), prior experience (2% per year up to 10 years) and fluency in any foreign language (4%).
