Salary: $32.10 - $49.59 hourly (includes an additional 3% in pay for this assignment as Investigator)

About the role

The Davis County Sheriff's Office operates 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. This full-time Deputy Sheriff position is assigned to Investigations and may require working weekends, holidays, on-call, and rotating shifts.

Responsibilities

  • Enforces federal, state, and local laws and performs arrests for criminal activities
  • Serves criminal and civil warrants and other civil process papers as required by federal, state, and local statutes
  • Conducts searches of individuals, vehicles, and buildings; investigates crime
  • Responds to questions, complaints, and requests for assistance from the public
  • Enforces traffic laws and issues citations for traffic violations
  • Prepares various reports, records, memos, and other intra- and interdepartmental documents
  • Appears in court and before other legal and quasi-legal bodies to give oral testimony regarding investigations, arrests, and other relevant information
  • Responds to emergencies, performs CPR, and administers first aid when necessary
  • Operates a motor vehicle safely and in compliance with all Utah laws and regulations
  • Effectively utilizes lethal and non-lethal weapons in compliance with Davis County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) policies and procedures

Requirements

  • Deputy Sheriff - LE II: Twenty-four (24) months of full-time experience as a sworn officer
  • Deputy Sheriff - LE III: Five (5) years of full-time experience as a sworn officer, including successful participation in a specialty assignment for a minimum of two years (e.g., SWAT, Motors, K-9, Policy Committee, Transportation, or active instructor, as designated/approved by the Sheriff or Chief Deputy)
  • Must be either a United States citizen or a lawful resident of the United States who has been in the country legally for at least five years with legal authorization to work
  • Must pass a Davis County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) background investigation, including an eye detect test
  • Must be at least 21 years old at the time of certification for Law Enforcement Officer (LEO), as required by state statute
  • Must pass the physical fitness test as part of the application process and annually thereafter
  • Preference for bilingual skills (Spanish speaking)

Schedule

Fitness testing will be conducted July 27-30, 8:00 am and 3:00 pm. Applicants who successfully pass the physical fitness test will be invited to interviews August 5-6, 9:00 am - 4:00 pm.
