About the role

The Deputy Sheriff / Corporal position plays a crucial role in maintaining public safety and ensuring the smooth operation of the jail and court systems. The role involves protecting and serving the community, enforcing laws, and supporting court operations.

Responsibilities

  • Protect and serve the community by ensuring the safety of inmates, coworkers, and the public in the jail or courthouse.
  • Step in during emergencies, de-escalate tensions, and respond with calm and confidence.
  • Maintain safety and order by supervising up to 72 inmates with fairness and respect.
  • Enforce the law and support the courts by serving warrants, making arrests, and transporting prisoners safely.
  • Stay sharp and ready by training in defensive tactics, de-escalation, and life-saving measures.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Current POST certification under the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Act.
  • Ability to qualify and requalify with your service weapon twice a year after certification.
  • GCIC Security & Awareness Training completed within 10 days of hire.
  • First Aid & CPR Certification within 3 months of hire.
  • Basic Jail Certification Course completed within 6 months of hire.

Qualifications

  • At least 2 years of law enforcement related experience for Corporal rank.

Skills

Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills are essential. Proficiency in computer systems and ability to work independently and as part of a team are also important.

Pay

$6,000 hiring bonus paid in installments over 12 months. Starting salary range is $59,287 - $80,212 with potential for higher starting pay based on prior BLE Certified experience.

Schedule & Expectations

12-hour shifts (7:45 to 7:45), fixed days or nights, including weekends and holidays. Emergency-response role during community emergencies.
