Deputy Sheriff

General Summary

Enforces all Wyoming Criminal laws. Performs county road patrol, investigates criminal conduct, serves civil papers, testifies in court, files reports, carries and qualifies with a firearm, safely operates a patrol vehicle and controls and arrests individuals. Responds to emergencies and dangerous or deadly situations. Completes paperwork regarding incidents. Interacts effectively and professionally with the public, administrative figures, and other agencies. Responds to citizens' calls for service and provides services to all county residents.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Enforces all Wyoming criminal laws.
• Investigates suspected crimes, both reported and observed.
• Makes arrests.
• Subdues resisting suspects using various techniques, tactics and weapon(s) and transports to county jail.
• Gathers information in criminal investigations by interviewing and obtaining the statements of involved parties and collecting evidence.
• Prepares investigative and other reports, including sketches, symbols, and mathematical computations. Provides accompanying documentation and information.
• Operates a law enforcement vehicle safely and lawfully.
• Communicates over law enforcement radio channels to peers, dispatchers, supervisors, and other agencies, while initiating and responding to radio communications.
• Attends hearings and other court functions. Provides information and documentation to the court and county attorney. Testifies in court.
• Serves or delivers arrest warrants, summonses, subpoenas, and other official papers. Serves and executes civil papers throughout the County.
• Responds to all calls for service, including alarms, accidents, domestic disputes, rescue operations, noise complaints, animals at large, thefts, assaults, civil disputes, and information inquiries.
• Investigates suspicious persons and/or circumstances.
• Conducts field interrogations.
• Conducts area and security checks of businesses, residences, and special watch areas. Conducts visual and audio surveillance.
• Patrols county roads for general purpose of law enforcement and crime prevention.
• Recognizes and responds to traffic enforcement. Enforces traffic laws, initiates traffic stops, issues citations and warnings as warranted.
• Performs rescue functions at accidents, emergencies, and disasters.
• Maintains contact with general public, court officials and other County/City officials in the performance of law enforcement operating activities.
• Adheres to current incident command structure.
• Maintains all issued equipment in a functional and presentable condition.
• Performs related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent Achievement.
• No experience required.
• Any equivalent combination of training, education and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities.
• Required Licenses Or Certifications:
  • Class C driver’s license.
  • Must obtain Wyoming P.O.S.T. Peace Officer Certification.

Physical Demands

• The position involves heavy physical demands, such as exerting up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 50 lbs. of force frequently and/or up to 20 lbs. of force constantly to move objects.
