About the role

This job posting is for retired sworn police and sheriff employees only. The position is non-merit and not eligible for Baltimore County government benefits.

Responsibilities

  • Serves civil and criminal process, makes arrests, maintains courtroom security, and transports prisoners.
  • Enforces court orders by making arrests, collecting judgments, taking possession of property, and conducting Sheriff's sales and levies of chattels, goods, and real property.
  • Conducts applicant investigations and other investigations concerning Sheriff's Office business.
  • Maintains peace and security of the courts, courts building complex, and judicial employees.
  • Maintains custody and transportation of inmates, prisoners, and detainees to and from court proceedings, courthouses, detention, correctional, and rehabilitation facilities.
  • Carries, maintains, trains, and is proficient in the use of a firearm.
  • Operates a radio-equipped County vehicle.
  • Operates radio, telephone, and other communications devices.
  • Completes written reports.

Requirements

  • Must be a retired sworn Police or Sheriff employee in good standing.
  • Have at least two (2) years' experience as a Police Officer or Deputy Sheriff.
  • Current MPCTC certification or have been MPCTC certified within the last three (3) years which includes firearms qualification.
  • Have a high school diploma, GED, or an appropriate equivalent.
  • Be at least 21 years of age at the time you submit your application.
  • Must be a citizen of the United States.

Qualifications

  • Possession of a high school diploma or appropriate equivalent.
  • Be a retired sworn Police or Sheriff's Office employee.
  • Have current MPCTC certification within the last three (3) years, including firearms qualification.

Skills

  • Ability to perform law enforcement and regulatory work.
  • Proficiency in using a firearm.
  • Operational skills with radio equipment and communication devices.
  • Writing and reporting skills.
