Job Summary

The Nevada State Public Defender, Ely Office, is responsible for representing indigent clients in the Ely Township Municipal Court, Justice Court and the Seventh Judicial District Court. Preference may be given to candidates that are self motivated, possess conflict resolution skills, proficient in Microsoft 360 programs, Legal Case Management software systems, and is fluent in Spanish.

Essential Qualifications

  • Nevada Bar Membership is required or candidates must be eligible to practice under the rural practice provision of the Nevada Supreme Court Rule 49.9.

Job Duties

Daily responsibilities include meeting with clients in and out of custody, reviewing and analyzing discovery, consulting with clients, investigators, and additional office staff, managing court appearances, client meetings, telephonic conferences, and negotiating with opposing counsel.

When January 1, June 19, July 4, November 11, or December 25 falls on a Saturday, the preceding Friday is the observed legal holiday. If these days fall on Sunday, the following Monday is the observed holiday.
