Responsibilities
- Serves as special assistant to the Mayor on various projects, committees, or functions that require a broad knowledge of the various functions, goals, and administrative procedures of the City; relays information to the Mayor on such projects.
- Serves as a representative of the Mayor on special projects and often chairs specific task forces and meetings; serves on steering committees to assist in the establishment of the future direction of task force efforts.
- Supports the administration, planning, and activities of the Policy Department.
- Participates in the development of policy project work plans; assigns work activities, projects, and programs; monitors workflow; reviews and evaluates work products, methods, and procedures.
- Works closely with City leadership, advisory groups, and key stakeholders on the development of policy initiatives, practices, programs, and procedures.
- Researches and gathers objective evidence to support the policymaking process for the benefit of the City of Knoxville, residents, businesses, and visitors.
- Initiates and manages policy endeavors including project scope, strategy, budget, and expectations. Serves as a convener and collaborator on behalf of the Policy Department, the City of Knoxville, and the Mayor.
- Coordinates support of policy-related public awareness and educational campaigns and stakeholder outreach.
- Confers with representatives of other organizations on behalf of the Mayor regarding policy initiatives.
- Compiles, analyzes, and evaluates data for decision-making, communications, and support to departments throughout the City.
- Acts as liaison between the Mayor and city staff, citizens, or other organizations on specified projects or tasks.
Qualifications
- Graduation from a CHEA-accredited four-year college or university.
- At least three years of progressively responsible experience in management and/or policy.
- Prior policy and program development experience.
- Demonstrated success with key stakeholder collaboration and development of partnerships.
Preferred Qualifications
Preference may be given to applicants with five to seven years of progressively responsible experience in policy, management, government relations, or related fields.
