About the role

The Knoxville Engineering Office is the engineering execution center for Bechtel’s Nuclear, Security, & Environmental business line, providing engineering design development and support to multiple large complex projects. Projects executed out of this office are primarily large government works throughout various sectors, including DOD and DOE.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, develops, directs, and participates in the day-to-day electrical engineering activity on small sized projects or a portion of a major project with minimal complexity within a global business unit utilizing relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design standards and guides, and Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs)
  • Supervises, coordinates, and reviews the work of personnel assigned, estimates staffing needs and schedules and assigns work accordingly
  • Provides the technical input to meet procurement requirements
  • Prepares or oversees the preparation of electrical discipline estimates and work plan in accordance with project scope, schedule, and budget, and manages implementation and performance accordingly
  • Reviews and makes recommendations of the electrical engineering aspects of bid evaluations and awards for approval by project engineering
  • Coordinates with client representatives to obtain their approval of electrical engineering aspects of the work
  • Reviews and approves key calculations, licensing evaluations, design documents, supplier drawings and data, material specifications, drawings, and change orders, for the project to which assigned
  • Ensures that assigned electrical engineering personnel receive appropriate on-the-job training for their professional development
  • Aids in the preparation and reviews of project procedures and cost estimates for proposals, forecasts, and change orders

Requirements

  • Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 8-10 years of relevant experience
  • Basic Qualifications: Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check. Experience with Microsoft Office programs and other common computer programs. Experience with project controls including scheduling, estimating engineering efforts, planning, and work packaging. Knowledge of the application of electrical engineering design principles. Knowledge of industry and regulatory guides, codes, and standards. Strong knowledge of electrical systems, schematics, and layouts. Strong understanding of engineering drawings, systems calculations, equipment sizing, and cable sizing. Strong knowledge of power systems load modeling and analysis. Understanding of mechanical and process engineering discipline drawings and system calculations, as related to electrical design requirements. Ability to utilize engineering and office automation tools effectively. Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written).
