Deputy District Attorney I
About the role
The mission of the Napa County District Attorney’s Office is to investigate and prosecute criminal and civil cases with integrity and fairness, to treat crime victims and witnesses with the highest level of respect and dignity, and to take a proactive role in crime prevention through community awareness and education. The office is seeking an Attorney I to join the team. Attorney I will handle less difficult cases and assignments while learning duties and responsibilities. The ideal candidate possesses integrity, a passion for justice, a love of mercy, and an attitude of humility. Applicants awaiting July 2026 California State Bar exam results are encouraged to apply; any offer is contingent upon passing the bar exam. Napa County employees automatically become Disaster Service Workers and may be asked to provide critical services during emergencies.
Requirements
- Education: Graduation from an accredited law school.
- Experience: None required (though prior legal experience is desirable).
- License/Certificate: Active membership in the California State Bar Association; must maintain active and in good standing status during employment.
- Physical standards: Must pass a physical examination prior to appointment; offer conditional upon successful completion.
- Fingerprinting: Required for all hired employees.
Benefits
- Winter Time Off (WTO): 32.0 hours of paid leave.
- Salary: Based on a five‑step range; appointments usually made at the beginning step with advances occurring at six months and the completion of each year thereafter; salary rates reviewed annually.
