Defends the Federal and State constitutions. Acts as an officer of the Court and deputy to the chief law enforcement official in the county. Performs functions of a deputy district attorney at the misdemeanor/felony/circuit court level.
Responsibilities
- Reviews reports from various police agencies and makes charging decisions
- Prepares charging documents and cases for trial
- Prepares witnesses and assists victims
- Conducts legal research and briefs issues for hearings
- Handles motion practice and represents the state at court proceedings
- Offers legal advice to police, county, and state officials
- Reports to crime scenes when called
- Participates in an on-call list rotation for after-hours access for local law enforcement agencies
Requirements
- Doctorate of Jurisprudence from an accredited law school
- Member in good standing with the Oregon State Bar Association
- Current Driver License and ability to safely operate a passenger vehicle
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Proficient computer and word processing skills
- Commitment to teamwork and strong motivation to work with different agencies and individuals in dealing with crime
- Respect for a wide range of lifestyles, sensitivity to difficult issues, and a positive outlook
- Ability to prioritize work and work alone with little or no supervision at times
- Ability to remain firm in efforts to seek justice
Lateral placement possible based on experience at the appropriate salary level.
Pay
Effective July 1, 2026, starting salaries:
- DAII - $8,318.00 per month
- DAIII - $10,173.00 per month
- DAIV - $12,521.00 per month
