Deputy Director of Public Works/City Engineer
About The Position
The County of Riverside is looking for qualified Deputy Probation Officers. This is the entry level class in the Deputy Probation Officer series. Under close supervision, positions in this class learn to perform office and field probation work such as conducting investigations, writing court reports, representing the department in court, and supervising probationers.
Essential Duties
- Performs investigations of individuals and their offenses and evaluates pertinent behavioral, social, and personal information.
- Prepares court reports and makes recommendations on the disposition of cases; represents the department in court and testifies regarding cases.
- Investigates juvenile referrals for possible filing of Juvenile Court petitions.
- Recommends if juveniles should be kept in custody or released, if the case should be dismissed, if a petition should be filed, or if other action should be taken.
- Supervises and assists adult and juvenile probationers in the implementation of their conditions of probation.
- Maintains contact and communications with probationers through home visits, office visits, correspondence, and telephone.
- Prepares reports to the court regarding the probationer's progress and adjustment; prepares and maintains case history records, case evaluations, and reports to the court regarding probationers.
- Provides aid and counsel to probationers in the resolution of adjustment and rehabilitation problems; formulates plans of rehabilitation; assists the individual in more effective use and budgeting of monies.
- May arrange for and participate in group counseling sessions for probationers and their families, and for groups of probationers.
- Promotes and supports crime and delinquency prevention programs through contacts and involvement in community activities.
- Deputies assigned to carry a firearm supervise high-risk violent probationers, gang members, and other special caseloads which may involve performing arrests, conducting searches, and participating in inter-agency law enforcement operations.
- Attends staff, divisional, and departmental meetings; keeps records of daily and monthly activities.
- Attends courses in powers of arrest and search and seizure; may restrain an adult or juvenile for the purpose of arrest and/or detention.
- Works flexible hours, as required by assignment.
Education & Experience
- A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree from a regional accredited college or university is required.
- No experience required.
License/Certificates
Possession of a valid California Class B Driver’s License may be required of some positions in this class.
Criminal Record
No felony convictions, and cannot currently be on probation.
