Primary duties & responsibilities

  • Manage the development and implementation of short and long-term funding strategies of the Development Department to achieve the organization’s fundraising goals, including CHIRLA's general programs budget, Capital Campaign, CHIRLA Action Fund general programs budget and Data Center project
  • Lead all aspects of donor relations, including the development and implementation of fundraising plans for regular phone, event in-person, mail or electronic communications
  • Lead the management and coordination of activities to deepen CHIRLA’s relationships with existing individual donors at all levels, develop relationships with new individual donors, and solicit financial support from current and potential donors
  • Develop and implement strategies to move assigned prospects through the gift cycle, with a particular emphasis on prospect qualification, retention, renewal, and gift upgrades
  • Lead in the development and implementation of short and long-term funding strategies of the Development Department to further the organization’s mission, vision, and organizational strategic plan
  • Lead the planning and implementation of donor-centered events, including open houses, donor briefings, and CHIRLA’s annual fundraising events, including the Immigrant Champion Awards
  • Develop and execute a strategy for donor research and profiles and utilizing the existing CRM data to mine for donor prospects for annual gifts, major gifts, planned gifts and special gifts
  • Oversee data entry and gift acknowledgement processing. Implements donor segmentation
  • Work in unison with the Managing Director and Program Directors to strengthen existing partnerships and develop new partnerships leading to both programmatic and funded needs
  • In collaboration with the Deputy Director of Development and Director of Development, oversee and manage donor and grants databases (Salesforce) while developing strategies and practices to maximize platform effectiveness and any new tools needed for the department
  • Supervise the Community Fundraising Events Manager, Development Coordinator, and including volunteers/interns as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned or required

Skills and qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field
  • At least five years of donor-centered fundraising experience; tangible experience of having solicited and closed five-figure gifts
  • At least five years of experience in supervisory roles
  • Experience with planning and executing special events (minimum of 400+ guests)
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines, in a fast-paced environment, and be flexible when last-minute priorities arise
  • Proficient with Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint, and other Microsoft Suite or other software utilized by CHIRLA
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent verbal, analytical, writing, and organization skills
  • Excellent attention to detail, accuracy, and thoroughness
  • Able to work independently and cooperate in a team setting, showing respect for all, and emotional maturity
  • Strategic planning: Being able to think strategically in a team environment to achieve fundraising goals
  • Leadership & Management: Providing regular supervision to staff with the goal of improving the skills and professionalism of staff
  • Experience using donor CRM systems, including Salesforce preferred

  • Experience in social justice work and/or immigrant rights a plus
  • Demonstrated success working and communicating effectively in a multi-cultural environment
  • Self-starter with excellent problem-solving skills combined with the proven ability to multitask, prioritize duties, and manage time effectively
  • Self-starter- able to take on tasks with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships and work effectively with people of diverse social, faith, economic, and racial/ethnic backgrounds
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft 365- Internet required
  • Willingness to work flexible hours; evenings and weekends required
  • A commitment to social justice, and experience working with and in diverse low-income communities and communities of color
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage deadlines and multiple tasks effectively and efficiently
  • Support CHIRLA’s fundraising goals, including Annual Gala, Membership Drive, and other fundraising activities

Pay and benefits

Salary and Benefits: $85,000 - $100,000 CHIRLA also offers an excellent benefits package, which includes annual paid vacation, an additional two weeks of paid holiday leave in December, and an employer contribution to a retirement account after six months of employment. Moreover, health, dental, vision, and life insurance plans are provided

CHIRLA recognizes a staff bargaining unit affiliated with AFSCME District Local 4501. This position is a management position and is not included in CHIRLA’s bargaining unit and covered under the terms of the collective bargaining agreement.
