Deputy Director of Community Standards and Accountability

About the Role

The Center for Community Standards and Accountability (CSA) upholds the University’s Code of Student Conduct and academic integrity policies, providing a fair and consistent process for addressing allegations of student misconduct. The Deputy Director of Community Standards and Accountability reports to the Executive Director of CSA and oversees the day-to-day case management function, including supervision of three full-time Investigators/Associate Directors. This role integrates restorative practices into the department’s broader approach to case resolution and serves on the department’s Leadership Team.

Responsibilities

• Supervise the day-to-day case management efforts of three Case Managers/Investigators, including hiring, performance management, and collaboration with the Executive Director on performance appraisals and expectations.
• Provide feedback and evaluation to Case Managers/Investigators regarding case handling, including advice on appropriate sanctions, educational outcomes, and resolutions; approve day-to-day case resolutions.
• Investigate allegations of academic and other misconduct by graduate and undergraduate students, including interviewing accused students, complainants, and witnesses.
• Manage case-related communications, including drafting documents and representing the office at formal disciplinary hearings to see cases through to completion.
• Identify, implement, and document internal protocols and procedures for case handling; review procedures on an ongoing basis.
• Serve as part of the department’s Leadership Team, working with the Executive Director and Deputy Director of Restorative Practices at Penn to integrate restorative practices and develop strategic outreach and communication efforts.
• Act as Director of the Center for Community Standards and Accountability in the Executive Director’s absence.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree and 5 to 7 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience; J.D. or other terminal degree preferred.
• Significant progressively responsible experience in student conduct, academic integrity, investigations, or a related field, including experience conducting investigations and supervising professional staff.
• Demonstrated ability to manage sensitive, confidential matters with sound judgment and discretion.
• Strong interviewing, analytical, and case management skills.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Experience with restorative practices strongly preferred.

Pay

$80,891.00 - $120,000.00 annual salary. Offers are based on candidate qualifications, experience, skills, education, and alignment with external market and internal peer data.
