Responsibilities
- Draft and edit press releases, statements, op-eds, talking points, and media advisories in AIPN's voice.
- Build and manage relationships with reporters, producers, and editors; pitch stories and field inquiries.
- Help manage rapid response, turning around statements and reactive material quickly as news breaks.
- Staff principals for interviews and media appearances, including prep and messaging.
- Oversee AIPN's social presence in coordination with the Director of Digital Organizing, including content calendars and reactive posting.
- Maintain message consistency and brand voice across earned, owned, and paid channels.
- Partner with the Communications Director on communications strategy, planning, and message development.
- Manage communications projects end-to-end, coordinating across Government Affairs, Digital Organizing, and outside vendors.
- Supervise junior staff, contractors, and freelancers as the team grows.
Qualifications
- 5–8+ years of communications experience in political, advocacy, government, campaign, agency, or newsroom settings.
- Exceptional writing and editing skills, with the ability to produce clean, persuasive copy under tight deadlines.
- Strong news judgment and a working understanding of how to earn and shape coverage.
- Demonstrated experience managing media relationships and executing rapid response.
- Based in the D.C. area; this is a hybrid role reporting to our Capitol Hill office at least once per week.
- Existing relationships with technology, national-security, or political reporters.
- Experience supervising staff or managing freelancers and vendors.
- Familiarity with social platforms, email tools (Hubspot preferred), and website/CMS administration (WordPress preferred).
- Exposure to AI policy and/or national-security policy.
