About the role
The Deputy Commissioner of Social Services assists the Commissioner in administering various programs such as children and family services, adult services, foster care, financial resources, and other services as defined by Social Services law. They coordinate and plan the work of various divisions and may oversee major program areas like temporary assistance, administrative services, financial assistance, or child welfare services.
Responsibilities
- Assists the Commissioner in administering various social services programs.
- Coordinates and plans the work of various divisions within the department.
- Oversees major program areas such as temporary assistance, administrative services, financial assistance, or child welfare services.
- Acts for the Commissioner during absences with all authority conveyed in Social Services law.
- Performs related work as required.
Requirements
- Possession of a bachelor’s degree and five (5) years of experience in a health, education, or social services agency.
- Two (2) years of supervisory experience in a social casework unit or an eligibility program unit in a social services department.
- Post-graduate training at a recognized college or university in social work, public administration, hospital administration, educational administration, or business administration, up to two (2) years of the above prescribed experience.
- Accreditation of degree from a regionally, nationally, or specialized agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
- Verification of equivalency for degrees earned outside the United States.
- Pre-employment screenings required.
Qualifications
Minimum qualifications include possession of a bachelor’s degree and five (5) years of experience in a health, education, or social services agency, with two (2) years of supervisory experience in a social casework unit or an eligibility program unit in a social services department. Post-graduate training is also considered, but not as equivalent to supervisory experience.

$87,363-116,280/year (Management Compensation Plan)
