Deputy Attorney General - Policy

The Office of the Indiana Attorney General represents the state in cases involving the state's interest, provides legal defense to state officials or agencies in court, and gives formal legal advisory opinions on constitutional or legal questions to state officials. This role offers a hybrid work model allowing for the possibility of working two remote days per week.

About the role

The Deputy Attorney General for Policy supports the Policy Director and the Legislative Director on legislative initiatives and policy goals for the benefit of the Office and Hoosier constituents. This role reports directly to the Policy Director and is a member of the Legislative and Policy Development Team.

Responsibilities

• Perform special projects and other duties as assigned to advance the Attorney General’s policy agenda and goals.
• Appear on select policy-related litigation cases or appeals with other Deputy Attorneys General.
• Provide effective and efficient legal and policy services.
• Draft comment letters in response to proposed administrative rules, policy letters, and other policy-related materials as assigned.
• Support the legislative team in preparation for the legislative session, including bill drafting.
• Assist during the legislative session by drafting amendments, tracking bills, meeting with various stakeholders on behalf of the Office, and performing time-sensitive tasks.
• Assist during the post-session by drafting reports, implementing newly passed laws, and performing certain tasks related to Office priorities.
• Perform legal research on policy-related issues and draft legal memoranda summarizing research.
• Maintain professional and positive relationships with internal and external contacts on behalf of the Office.

Requirements

• License to practice law in the State of Indiana.

Pay

$82,151.00 - $113,645.00 annually.
