Job Summary

Under the general supervision of the Pre Admitting Director, the Department Secretary is responsible for the clerical duties on the Nursing Unit. Facilitates communication with patients, as it pertains to age specific requirements, families, visitors, physicians, Nursing Administration, and patient support services. Utilizes computer system accurately in entering required data for Unit activities as it pertains to age specific needs/requirements. Maintains current knowledge of Hospital and Departmental operational standards to facilitate communication with personnel as needed. Organizes work duties on the Patient Care Unit to allow for periods of peak activity and reduced work load for maximum utilization of time. Utilizes communication skills maximally in working with a variety of individuals. Exercises sound judgment in dealing with all levels of Nursing personnel, other Hospital personnel, visitors, and other individuals interacting with the Nursing Unit. Recognizes errors made in own work or work of others and takes appropriate measures. Participates in relevant inservice programs and other self-directed learning activities, which promote growth in position responsibilities. Actively participates in the Unit Performance Improvement Program.

Qualifications

  • LicensureEducationBCLS.
  • Minimum one-year experience as a secretary in a hospital setting or equivalent.
  • Computer experience preferable.
