About the role

This is a training position. Upon completion of training, you will transition into a Meat Department Manager role. Each retail team member plays a vital role in our stores and the communities they serve, handling various tasks throughout the store.

Responsibilities

• Provide excellent customer service by delivering on the Value Offer, as directed by the Meat Department Manager.
• Address customer complaints, requests, and inquiries quickly and effectively.
• Schedule department staff to maximize customer service and meet business needs.
• Manage the Meat Department alongside the Meat Department Manager to maximize sales and profits.
• Monitor gross profit, investigate and address variances, and communicate findings to the Category Manager.
• Track sales trends and complete regular competitor price checks.
• Ensure daily operating disciplines, as outlined in the Best Practices Manual (Retail Basics), are consistently met.
• Maintain product quality through proper ordering, receiving, inspection, handling, labeling, pricing, and stock rotation.
• Recruit, support, train, and develop staff, as directed by the Meat Manager.

Requirements

• 1+ years of management or supervisory experience in meat retail.
• Experience in a meat department or with meat cutting techniques.
• Strong knowledge of meat operating principles.
• Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
• Strong customer service skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Attention to detail and good organizational skills.
• Willingness to learn and take on new responsibilities.
• Ability to delegate work duties, manage, and motivate staff.
• Must be willing to relocate to rural regions of Alaska (relocation arrangements and costs covered by the company).

Housing Guidelines

Company-provided housing is intended for employees and their immediate family members only, defined as a spouse or partner and dependent children. Most housing units have an occupancy limit of four individuals. Exceptions must be reviewed and approved in advance by the Director of Operations.

Pet Policy

Due to the remote nature of our locations, limited housing options, and restricted access to veterinary care, pets are generally discouraged. Pet requests are reviewed on a case-by-case basis and must be approved by the Director of Operations. In communities where pets are permitted, there is a firm limit of two pets per unit—no exceptions. Service animals are permitted in accordance with applicable laws.
