Evaluation
- Evaluates programs
- Serves on Division and College wide committees
- Collaborates with area colleges to articulate programs
Supervision
- Supervises the development of Institutional Effectiveness departmental plans
- Solves student, faculty, and staff problems
- Supervises all evaluation and personnel academic activities conducted by the department
Teaching
- Prepares and delivers lecture on one course per semester
- Facilitates curriculum development
- Hires full-time and adjunct faculty
- Makes teaching assignments each term
Budgeting
- Develops and monitors departmental budgets including grants, goals and plans
- Develops class schedules each semester
Curriculum Development
- Develops curriculum
- Supervises curriculum implementation
Job Summary
This is a full-time, fiscal year tenure track faculty appointment with management and supervisory responsibilities as the Department Head of Nursing. The Department Head provides leadership, management, planning, and advocacy for faculty and programs within the unit. He/she is responsible for formulating and communicating recommendations for hiring, tenure, promotion, retention and evaluation of faculty and departmental support staff.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master's degree in Nursing
- Five (5) years of full-time teaching experience
- Three (3) years experience in an administrative/supervisory capacity preferably in higher education or a clinical setting
- Valid, unencumbered RN license in Tennessee or a compact state
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
- Demonstrated leadership experience
- Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for students and the measurement of training effects
- Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, leadership technique, and coordination of people and resources
- Ability to lead strategic planning, program accreditation review as necessary, and assessment in the interest of promoting academic program excellence
- Excellent written and verbal skills, including the ability to master complex issues and convey information clearly for varied audiences
