About the Role

Diagnoses and treats diseases, injuries, and malformations of teeth and gums and related oral structures. Examines patients to determine the nature of conditions, utilizing x-rays, dental instruments, and other diagnostic procedures. Provides preventive dental services, including applications of fluoride and sealants, and educates patients on oral and dental hygiene.

Responsibilities

  • Examine patients' teeth and gums using dental equipment and X-rays
  • Diagnose dental conditions and plan oral health care in consultation with patients
  • Clean teeth and cavities and provide preventive care
  • Repair decayed and broken teeth by placing various filling materials; extract and replace teeth when necessary
  • Treat diseases of the gums, tooth nerves, and root canals
  • Perform surgical operations on the mouth, jaws, teeth, and related structures
  • Administer local anesthetics when necessary for treatment
  • Design, construct, and fit dentures, crowns, and bridges to replace lost or unsound teeth
  • Refer patients to dental specialists for further treatment
  • Set up and prepare dental equipment and instrumentation in accordance with regulations and guidelines
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot a wide range of dental equipment
  • Develop and process dental radiographs
  • Maintain patient records
  • Order and manage dental supplies and inventory
  • Adhere to sterile procedures and radiation safety protocols

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Bachelor’s Degree and successful completion of an accredited DDS (Doctor of Dental Surgery) or DMD (Doctor of Dental Medicine) program
  • Licensed to practice dentistry in the state of Idaho

Skills

  • Current knowledge of and ability to follow a full range of dental clinical procedures and protocols
  • Ability to work as a team member within a clinical environment
  • Knowledge of patient evaluation and triage procedures
  • Knowledge of planning and scheduling techniques
  • Knowledge of Federal, State, and institutional regulations for dental outpatient services
  • Ability to operate, maintain, and troubleshoot dental equipment
  • Knowledge of radiation safety procedures, standards, and protocols
  • Records maintenance skills
  • Knowledge of supplies, equipment, and inventory control
  • Knowledge of sterile procedures

Pay

$131,500 - $159,000 DOE. Opportunity for multiple bonuses.

Working Conditions

  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior clinic or a mobile dental unit
  • Moderate physical activity required, including handling objects up to 25 pounds or standing/walking for more than four hours per day
  • Exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations; requires following safety precautions and using protective equipment
  • Work with blood or blood-borne pathogens; OSHA training required

Additional Responsibilities

  • Participate in maintaining a safe working environment, including completing training, reporting hazards, and serving on safety committees as requested
  • Adhere to high standards of ethics and integrity, ensuring accurate reporting and billing in compliance with FHS, state, and federal regulations
  • Participate in compliance trainings and report any concerns or violations
  • Support the Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH) initiative by being an active team member
  • Read and understand operational, safety, and environmental requirements for the job
