DENTIST, PART TIME

Responsibilities

• Initiates and maintains compliance with company policies for accreditation.
• Completes an initial dental screening on all new commitments within seven (7) days.
• Evaluates those patients needing or applying for dental care and makes recommendations deemed clinically appropriate.
• Takes impressions for dental plates. Sends prostheses to outside dental labs.
• Formulates and creates treatment plans on an individual basis after a thorough exam.
• Performs routine cleaning, drilling, filling, and extraction of teeth in accordance with National Commission for Correctional Health Care Standards for dental care.
• Educates patients on maintaining proper oral health and prevention.
• Teaches patients about diet, flossing, use of fluoride, and other aspects of dental care.
• Prescribes pharmaceuticals, other medications, and treatment regimens to treat identified and documented dental conditions and regularly reviews those cases requiring ongoing medical/pharmaceutical attention.
• Produces clear and concise health records, reports and correspondence, including the use of Electronic Health Records system.
• Maintains patient confidentiality and comply with all federal and state health information privacy laws.
• Maintains a professional appearance and demeanor.
• Performs other various duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Degree in dentistry from an accredited dental school.
• Licensed to practice as a registered dentist in the state in which the facility is located is required.
• Professional license must remain on file at all times at the facility where services are rendered.
• Must be able to deal effectively with difficult detainees/inmates and staff at times.
• Demonstrate the ability to adjust medical techniques to accommodate the needs of the specialized population of the correctional setting. Includes communication between medical staff and detention staff about the care of detainees while understanding and adjusting for the unique security issues of the facility.
