About the role
Position is located within the Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration in Gainesville, Florida. The dentist will specialize in oral and maxillofacial surgery.
Responsibilities
- Perform oral and maxillofacial surgical procedures, including but not limited to extractions, dental implants, trauma surgery, and corrective jaw surgery.
- Provide comprehensive dental care to medically compromised patients.
- Maintain current licensure and registration in the state of practice.
- Adhere to VA standards and protocols for patient care and safety.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure integrated patient care.
Requirements
- United States Citizenship: Must be a U.S. citizen.
- Education: Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) from a school approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs or the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA).
- Residency or Comparable Experience: Completion of a residency program in general practice or oral and maxillofacial surgery, or comparable experience treating medically compromised patients.
- Licensure and Registration: Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia. Must maintain active licensure if required by the state.
- English Language Proficiency: Must be proficient in basic written and spoken English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d).
Qualifications
- Board eligibility or certification by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery is highly preferred.
- Minimum of four (4) years in an American Dental Association (ADA) accredited oral surgery program.
- Completion of an ADA-accredited DDS/DMD program.
Physical Requirements
- Must pass a pre-employment physical examination as required by VA Handbook 5019.
- Moderate lifting up to 44 lbs.
- Carrying objects up to 15 lbs.
- Frequent reaching above shoulder, use of fingers, hands, and legs.
- Use of cranes and motor vehicles.
- Walking and standing up to 8 hours.
- Bending and climbing.
- Able to hear a whisper.
- Must be physically, emotionally, and mentally stable to perform essential functions without hazard to self or others.
