Salary: Set using Title 38 pay authority, based upon the special qualifications of the selectee. The Title 38 salary range for this position is shown above.
Duties
As a Dentist, you will perform the following duties:
- Use clinical skills in oral surgery including surgical extractions of erupted teeth, administering of anesthesia, monitoring vital signs, alveoloplasty, removal of impacted teeth, biopsies, and soft tissue surgery.
- Examine patients, utilize diagnostic equipment as appropriate, interpreting results for diagnosis.
- Establish priority of care and performing necessary treatment based upon established diagnoses including follow-up care as indicated.
- Provide general dentistry services to a detainee population including: preventive modalities and patient oral health literacy education; pre-treatment health assessment with pertinent case history; with an emphasis on oral surgery.
- Prescribe and/or dispense appropriate medication to patients as indicated.
Requirements

Background Investigation: Successful background investigation.
Drug Screen: Successful drug screen.
Selective Service: Males born after 12/31/59 must certify registration with Selective Service.
Qualifications
Education: Successfully completed a Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from a school approved by the American Dental Association (ADA) and the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
Licensure: Successfully passed the National Board Dental Examinations (NBDE) and possess a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
Experience: One or more full years of experience, equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing professional dentistry work for GS-12 level and above assignments.
Specialized Experience: Performing oral surgery of various types; Working with the infection control process; Managing dental programs with minimal assistance; Providing general dentistry services.
Color Vision: Ability to distinguish shades of color.
BLS Certification: Current Basic Life Support (BLS), Healthcare Provider certification.
Language Proficiency: Understand, speak, read, and write English fluently. Bilingual communication capability preferred.
On-Call: Willingness to participate in the emergency on-call process, to include duty hours, after duty hours, designated holidays or other times as directed.
English Fluency: Must be able to understand, speak, and write English fluently.
Physical Requirements: Must be able to perform CPR/emergency care standing or kneeling. Must maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare provider certification. Must be able to understand, speak, and write English fluently.
