Duties
As a Dentist, you will perform the following duties:
- Use clinical skills in oral surgery including surgical extractions, anesthesia administration, vital sign monitoring, alveoloplasty, impacted tooth removal, biopsies, and soft tissue surgery.
- Examine patients, utilize diagnostic equipment, interpret results for diagnosis.
- Establish priority of care and perform necessary treatment based on established diagnoses, including follow-up care.
- Provide general dentistry services to a detainee population, including preventive modalities, oral health literacy education, pre-treatment health assessment, and oral surgery.
- Prescribe and/or dispense appropriate medication to patients as indicated.
Requirements
Citizenship: U.S. citizenship required.
Background Investigation: Successful completion required.
Drug Screen: Successful completion required.
Selective Service Registration: Males born after 12/31/59 must certify registration.
Qualifications
Education: Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from an ADA-approved CODA-accredited school.
Licensure: Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a state, DC, PR, or U.S. territory.
Experience: One or more full years of experience performing professional dentistry work for GS-12 level and above assignments.
Specialized Experience: Performing oral surgery, infection control, managing dental programs, providing general dentistry services.
Language Proficiency: Ability to understand, speak, read, and write English fluently. Bilingual communication capability preferred.
On-Call: Willingness to participate in emergency on-call process, including duty hours, after-duty hours, designated holidays, and other times as directed.
Other: Must be able to distinguish shades of color, BLS certification, and meet other requirements as detailed.
Additional Requirements
BLS Certification: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare provider certification.
Color Vision: Ability to distinguish shades of color.
Probationary Period: One-year probationary period required.
