About the role

Family Health Centers of San Diego (FHCSD) is a leading community health center providing comprehensive care to over 227,000 patients annually, with a special focus on uninsured and low-income individuals. With more than 90 sites across San Diego County, FHCSD offers a wide array of services including adult care, pediatrics, dental, vision, and behavioral health.

Responsibilities

  • Completes all required documentation accurately, in a timely manner, and thoroughly in accordance with department standards.
  • Consults when appropriate and refers patients as necessary to dental specialists and/or medical providers.
  • Instructs and clinically supervises dental hygienists, dental assistants, and other para-professional personnel.
  • Participates in developing and reviewing dental treatment protocols, audit procedures, and quality assurance procedures.
  • Provides dental care to patients, including root canal therapy, restorative (operative and fixed and removal prosthodontics), and oral surgery (simple and surgical).
  • Uses resources efficiently; practices dentistry in a cost-effective manner.

Requirements

  • Current American Heart Association healthcare provider CPR (BLS), or Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Advanced Trauma Life Support, or Advance Resuscitation Training.
  • DEA license.
  • General practice residency or equivalent of 2 years clinical experience preferred.
  • Graduate of accredited Dental School.
  • Licence from the State of California as a Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) or a Doctor of Medical Dentistry (D.M.D.) required.
  • Membership in American Academy of General Dentistry preferred.

Specialized Skills (including Language)

  • Ability to work effectively with patients from diverse social, cultural and economic groups.
  • Ability to work well in both a team-based environment and independently.
  • Basic computer literacy to comply with department needs and expectations (e.g., electronic medical record documentation, obtaining background information and reports on patients, following up on appointments, etc.).
  • Bilingual in Spanish/English strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to be culturally sensitive and respect diversity.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of, and ability to perform, relevant dental practices, protocol, trends, and best practices.
  • Effective training and coaching skills; ability to drive results and achieve objectives through others.
  • Good interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of, and ability to adhere to, scope of practice.

Benefits

The salary range for this position is $178,000.00 - $242,000.00. FHCSD offers a comprehensive benefits package including:
