Dental Patient Service Representative
About the role
Family Health Centers of San Diego (FHCSD) is a leading community health center providing comprehensive care to over 227,000 patients annually, with a special focus on uninsured and low-income individuals. Operating more than 90 sites across San Diego County, FHCSD offers a wide array of services including adult care, pediatrics, behavioral health, dental, vision, and specialized services like cardiology and podiatry.
Responsibilities
- Manage the patient check-in and check-out process, including identification verification, demographic updates, and insurance information confirmation.
- Collect specified co-pays and payments from patients according to their coverage, and handle self-pay patients.
- Screen for eligibility and financial assistance, and follow policies for collecting and handling cash.
- Ensure patient information is accurately entered into the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
- Follow up on referrals and authorizations for specialty services, and contact patients to schedule appointments and send reminders.
- Respond to billing inquiries and escalate issues as necessary.
- Perform general clerical duties such as scanning, tracking, and managing correspondence and packages.
Requirements
- A high school diploma or GED equivalent, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Medical Assistant certification, C-NA certification, or completion of a Medical Terminology course preferred.
- Valid California driver's license, automobile, and proof of minimum levels of car insurance.
- Experience in administrative or customer service roles, preferably in a healthcare setting.
- Ability to multi-task, be flexible, ensure accuracy, and meet changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Good computer literacy, including proficiency in using a computer system to enter information, manage appointments, and access EHR.
- Knowledge of cashiering functions and the ability to record payments and cash received.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with diverse patient populations.
- Basic understanding of medical terminology and procedures.
- Confidentiality and ability to listen well.
- Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Medical Assistant certification, C-NA certification, or Medical Terminology course preferred.
- Traveling between sites and other locations is occasionally required.
- Valid California driver's license, automobile, and proof of minimum levels of car insurance.
- An acceptable driving record is required.
- California law requires obtaining a valid California driver's license within ten days of establishing residency.

Pay
The salary range for this position is $25.00 - $29.12.
Schedule
