Dental Hygienist - Part-Time or Full-Time

We are seeking a Dental Hygienist to assess and deliver direct patient care, utilizing effective oral hygiene procedures and protocols to treat, educate, and reinforce good health outcomes. Team members uphold the health center mission by ensuring patients receive competent, caring healthcare with a high degree of satisfaction. Staff must also support a trauma-informed system of care that recognizes and responds to the impact of traumatic stress on patients, families, and colleagues.

This is an on-site position at our 11th location: 850 N 11th St, Philadelphia. The role is available on either a part-time or full-time basis.

Responsibilities

• Direct Patient Care
  • Assess dental conditions and risk through patient screening procedures, including medical history review and dental charting in the EHR.
  • Perform routine treatment procedures such as cleaning, polishing, x-rays, application of sealants, fluorides, and varnishes.
  • Develop and implement individualized dental care plans; provide patient education, risk protocols, discharge planning, and patient/family teaching under dentist supervision.
  • Perform patient triage and initiate care for walk-in patients.
• Indirect Patient Care
  • Provide chair-side assistance to dentists during special tests, procedures, and complex treatments.
  • Document dental history, observations, and relevant patient information in the EHR.
  • Document lab procedures and ensure follow-up on results.
• Maintenance of Laboratory Equipment and Supplies
  • Maintain Dental Department areas in compliance with infection control, exposure control, and safety policies.
  • Manage hygiene inventory and supplies.
  • Use downtime to clean, disinfect, and sterilize instruments; stock operatories.
  • Perform routine cleaning and maintenance of dental equipment in assigned operatories.
• General/Admin
  • Assist with insurance preauthorization for periodontal scaling and root planning, including follow-up on denials and scheduling approved cases.
  • Manage the continuing care recall system.

Requirements

• Education and Experience
  • Diploma from an accredited U.S. Dental Hygienist program.
  • Pennsylvania State Licensure as a Public Health Dental Hygiene Practitioner.
  • Pennsylvania State Local Anesthesia Licensure.
• Skills and Abilities
  • Competent with Electronic Dental Records.
  • Proficient with digital x-ray capture, including CCD digital x-ray systems.
  • Ability to independently assess dental, periodontal, and caries risk, as well as associated conditions and pathology.
• Physical Requirements
  • Light lifting: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently.
  • Stand or sit for extended periods.
  • Walk, use hands/fingers to handle or operate equipment, climb stairs/ladders.
  • Communicate effectively (talk/hear).
  • See clearly to detect, identify, and assess.
  • Perform pushing, pulling, repetitive motions, reaching (high/low), kneeling, stooping, crouching, or crawling.
