Dental Hygienist
SNA International, a world leader in forensics, biometrics, and identity intelligence, is seeking a Dental Hygienist to support dental remains accounting and coordination at the DPAA Hawaii Lab and assist DPAA Odontologists in Nebraska. This is a 100% onsite position at the DPAA lab in Omaha, NE.
About the role
The Dental Hygienist will assist odontologists with dental remains and associated casework, including inventory, cleaning, radiography, photography, and charting. The role involves operating digital dental X-ray equipment, cataloging antemortem radiographs, processing teeth for DNA submission, and supporting evidence management tasks.
Responsibilities
- Assists odontologists with dental remains and casework at DPAA Lab-Hawaii (inventory, cleaning, radiograph, photography, charting, etc.)
- Operates digital dental X-ray equipment to take dental radiographs
- Catalogs antemortem radiographs
- Conducts preliminary assessments of dental remains
- Processes teeth and prepares paperwork for DNA submission
- Assists the Evidence Manager with cleaning, accessioning, and storage of dental remains
- Tracks case progress, creates databases, and writes short reports and scientific memoranda
- Completes recurring duties independently; refers deviations or unfamiliar situations to supervisor
- Occasionally travels nationally and internationally (anticipated 5-10%)
- Assists DPAA-Hawaii Odontologists with current day processing of remains
- Protects organizational value by maintaining confidentiality
- Follows all client policies and procedures
- Completes other duties as assigned
Requirements
- B.A/B.S. or M.A/M.S. degree in dental hygiene, forensics, related field, or certified as an extended duty dental assistant
- Minimum of 10 years of clinical dental experience
- Experience in forensics (preferred but not required)
- Self-motivated, organized, and detail-oriented
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Working knowledge of dental and medical terminology and anatomy
- Strong knowledge of clinical, restorative, and prosthetic dentistry
- Familiarity with tooth numbering systems
- Strong written and communication skills
- Proficiency in MS Word, Photoshop, PowerPoint, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat
- Demonstrated history of initiative, achievement, and problem-solving
- Experience working independently with minimal supervision
- Experience supporting and anticipating client needs under tight deadlines
Physical Requirements
- Ability to use a computer for up to 4 hours at a time
- Sitting at a desk for extended periods
- Standing for extended periods while retracting soft tissue or taking radiographs
- Capability to work under high stress and pressure of short deadlines
- Ability to work in an active forensic laboratory with skeletonized human remains and related environments
