Dental Hygienist

General Purpose of Job

The dental hygienist will be responsible for conducting oral examinations, performing dental prophylaxis, and carrying out other duties related to preservation of dental health and prevention of dental disease. The candidate must also be able to deliver quality care to children and adults.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in the oral health management of all health and wellness center patients.
• Obtain baseline oral hygiene assessment data based on accepted principles of oral hygiene and periodontal care.
• Record patient‑hygienist interactions in the dental record to accurately reflect the nature of the contact, patient condition, and care provided.
• Provide oral health education and individualized counseling for all dental patients.
• Perform clinical oral hygiene services including dental prophylaxis, scaling, sealant application, and fluoride application in compliance with state law and QuadMed protocols.
• Integrate appropriate patient dental hygiene care with other health‑care professionals involved in the patient’s management.
• Organize and deliver preventive oral health presentations at on‑site and off‑site locations.
• Take dental radiographs in accordance with state regulations, department directives, and protocol.
• Perform procedures delegated by a dentist in accordance with state regulations and QuadMed directives.
• Assist in maintaining all department areas in compliance with QuadMed, infection‑control, exposure‑control, and safety policies.
• Make necessary telephone calls related to professional matters, center business, and patient care.
• Support various clinical and administrative functions of the health and wellness center as time permits.
• Ensure proper disposal of contaminated or potentially contaminated materials per QuadMed, center, and federal regulations.
• Travel when necessary to meet operational needs.
• Perform other related tasks as directed by a supervisor to achieve organizational goals.

Job Requirements

• Education: Graduate from an accredited school of dental hygiene.
• Experience: Experience as a licensed hygienist preferred.
• Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Unrestricted license to practice Oral Hygiene in the State of Wisconsin; Current CPR (BLS) certification or must be obtained within 60 days of hire.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Familiarity with Dentrix software (bilingual skills are a plus but not required).
• Considerable knowledge of equipment and procedures used in dental prophylactic treatments.
• Strong understanding of dental terminology and equipment.
• Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.
• Proven ability to work effectively with diverse populations and a demonstrated commitment to fostering inclusion.

Schedule

Full‑time, 4 × 10‑hour shifts: Monday through Thursday, 6:40 am – 5:10 pm.
