Lewis Primary Health Care Center is a Federally Qualified Community Health Center (FQHC) providing patient-centered primary health care services to the medically underserved residents of the greater Savannah-Chatham County, Georgia community. The Health Center offers comprehensive primary care, integrated behavioral health care, oral health care, and inpatient respite care services to all persons, including the homeless and low-income uninsured and underinsured, regardless of ability to pay. About the Role

As a dental hygienist, you will work closely with dentists and dental assistants to provide quality oral health care to patients. Your primary responsibilities will include performing dental cleanings, examining patients for signs of oral diseases such as gingivitis, and providing preventive dental care. You will also educate patients on proper oral hygiene techniques and assist dentists during procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Perform thorough dental cleanings to remove plaque, calculus, and stains from teeth.
  • Assess oral health conditions and screen for oral cancer and other potential health risks.
  • Educate patients on proper oral hygiene practices and provide personalized advice for maintaining good oral health.
  • Capture and develop dental radiographs (x-rays) as needed for diagnostic purposes.
  • Administer fluoride treatments and apply sealants to protect teeth from decay.
  • Support dentists during dental procedures by handing them instruments, taking impressions, and maintaining patient records.
  • Record patient care and treatment plans accurately in dental records.
  • Maintain strict infection control protocols by sterilizing and disinfecting dental instruments and equipment.
  • Stay updated on advancements in dental hygiene and participate in continuing education opportunities.

Requirements

  • Dental Hygienist certification and license.
  • Experience in performing dental prophylaxis.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Attention to detail and good manual dexterity.
  • Experience in a dental clinic or healthcare setting is a plus.
