About the role

The Dental Hygienist position is located in the Portland VA Healthcare center. The Dental Hygienist provides direct patient care under the supervision of the dentist and senior hygienist and performs other clinical and clerical functions. This position includes a Relocation or Recruitment Incentive.

Requirements

• United States Citizenship. Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens.
• Proficiency in spoken and written English.
• Associate degree or higher from an accredited dental hygiene program by the American Dental Association's Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA).
• Education completed outside of the United States must be deemed equivalent to a CODA-accredited U.S. program and enable the candidate to sit for the National Board Dental Hygiene Examination.
• Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice as a dental hygienist in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the United States, or the District of Columbia.
• Certification as a dental radiographer or completion of an accredited dental hygiene program containing radiologic procedures curriculum.

Qualifications

• Dental Hygienist - GS-05: No experience beyond the basic requirements.
• Dental Hygienist - GS-06: At least one year of experience equivalent to the GS-05 level.

Notes

• Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.
• Non-certified applicants may be given a temporary appointment as a graduate dental hygienist for a period not to exceed two years, under supervision, and may not be promoted or converted until certification is obtained.
• Foreign education must be deemed equivalent to a conventional U.S. program by a private organization specializing in the interpretation of foreign educational credentials.
