About the role

We are looking for a Dental Hygienist to support The Lawton Indian Hospital. This is a full-time position, Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Partial days may be scheduled with pro-rated payment by special arrangement with the Chief, Dental Services, and the schedule is subject to change to accommodate the hospital’s needs. No Federal holidays are required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide patient education and instruction to patients, parents, and guardians on dental disease processes, oral health disease prevention, and proper oral health care methods tailored to the patient’s age and needs.
  • Deliver periodontal and preventative services, including:
    • Root planing
    • Curettage
    • Periodontal charting and other diagnostic procedures, including radiographs
    • Coronal polishing
    • Sealant placement
    • Fluoride varnish application
    • Oral health education
  • Administer local anesthetic under the supervision of a staff dentist.
  • Sharpen and maintain instruments and equipment used in patient treatment.
  • Maintain and clean the dental unit at the end of each workday.
  • Restock supplies in the operatory at the end of each workday.
  • Process digital radiographs and assist with oral examinations on recall patients if time and workload permit.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Completion of a course of study in dental hygiene accredited by the American Dental Association, evidenced by a degree or certification.
  • A valid, current, and unrestricted license to practice dental hygiene in a U.S. state.

Skills

  • Ability to work after hours and weekends to meet community needs, if required.
  • Maintain personal hygiene and grooming standards compatible with professional expectations.
  • Familiarity with and adherence to current policies, procedures, bylaws, and regulations of the on-site clinical and medical staff.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Initiative, strong interpersonal skills, and social sensitivity to relate constructively to patients in Native American/Alaska Native communities.

Pay

Estimated hourly wage: USD $47.09 to $55.00 per hour.
