Dental Health Professions Department Clinical Instructor

Job Responsibilities

• Teaching Performance: Provides students with appropriate course materials, adheres to course competencies, prepares and delivers quality instruction, maintains a positive environment, values student input, and ensures accepted standards of achievement.
• Instructional Development: Prepares and maintains competency-based support materials, assists with selection of instructional resources, provides academic oversight, and participates in curriculum planning and development of student clinical experience.
• College and/or Other Community Service: Promotes the College, cooperates with and participates in projects and activities, serves on advisory committees, and supports the continuing education program.
• Professional Development: Keeps current in the teaching field, develops an annual professional development plan, participates in appropriate courses, seminars, and workshops, and introduces new ideas or practices.
• Instructional Management: Maintains required and appropriate records and files, submits reports accurately and on time, handles student work and records professionally, organizes and supervises student clinical experiences, and conducts continuous quality review and improvement.
• Student Advisement: Provides academic guidance, maintains office hours, acts as a liaison for faculty and students, takes advantage of advising training, uses computer resources to access data, and follows institutional policies.
• Clinical Coordination: On-site supervisory presence in the dental clinic, arranges for external clinical experiences, and supports completion of student hours.

Minimum And Additional Requirements

• Graduation from a CODA accredited institution.
• Possession of a South Carolina dental hygiene license.
• Possession of a CDA license.
• At least three years of documented clinical experience in the field of dental hygiene.
• At least three years of documented chairside clinical experience in the field of dental assisting.
• A minimum of one of the following: an associate in applied science degree in Dental Hygiene, a diploma in dental assisting from a CODA accredited school, or a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college/university.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college/university.
• Knowledge of the curriculum, instructional methodologies, and alternative delivery methods.
• Communication skills to interact verbally and in written form with students, peers, administrators, and the public.
• Ability to work independently and in groups.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective, cooperative, working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and other professional organizations.
• Ability to multi-task and meet timelines.
• Ability to work flexible hours to include evenings as needed.
