Dental Assistant - Part Time

Our Los Lunas, NM office is looking for a Dental Assistant to join their team. We provide on-the-job training, so certification is not required to be hired as a Dental Assistant. Job Purpose

To assist the dentist effectively and efficiently in providing dental care to patients and to promote Familia Dental’s culture, mission, and values.

Responsibilities

• Welcome and escort patients in a professional and friendly manner from reception area to and from the treatment areas.
• Ensure treatment rooms are equipped and stocked with inventory and re-order when necessary.
• Take and record patient’s medical and dental histories and vital signs, blood pressure, and pulse.
• Document/chart all dental procedures performed during each patient visit per Dentist’s instructions and legal requirements.
• Take and develop dental diagnostic x-rays.
• Pour and base diagnostic models and fabricate temporary restorations – as allowed by state law.
• Sterilize and disinfect instruments, set up instrument trays, prepare materials, and assist Dentist during dental procedures.
• Effectively provide dental education and information to patients to ensure awareness of dental health, oral hygiene strategies (e.g., tooth brushing, flossing, and nutritional counseling).
• Notify Office Manager of equipment trouble or general safety concerns.
• Attend and participate in morning huddles, chart reviews, and regular office meetings.
• Recognize and be sensitive to patients’ emotions.
• Understand and follow company policy and procedures, as well as state and federal laws related to a dental office.
• Other tasks as assigned.

Requirements

• Exceptional customer/patient service skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication and listening skills.
• Basic computer knowledge and experience with dental management software (Denticon experience is preferred).
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, patient-focused environment.
• Detail-oriented.
• Able to carry out written and verbal instructions.
• Organizational and time management skills.
• Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
• Meet state requirements for DA duties, continuing education, or license; Basic Life Support (BLS), cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certificate, and radiography certificate.
• Dental assisting experience is preferred but not required.
• Experience working within healthcare or a related field is strongly preferred.

Schedule

Part-time employment: 2+ days a week, 29 hours or less per week. Available to work Saturdays when needed. Working hours between: Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM – 7:00 PM and Saturday, 8:30 AM – 4:00 PM. Multiple half-day shifts or fewer full-day shifts.
