Duties Summary

Furnishes chairside assistance to a dentist in the performance of dental procedures; under general supervision perform related clinical-support duties such as cleaning and sterilizing dental instruments and equipment, and preparing restorative and other materials for dental treatment of patients; makes appointments, maintains dental records; retracts tongue and cheeks-from area of operation; and performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

  • LEGAL AUTHORIZATION TO WORK: The State of Hawaii Requires all persons seeking employment with the government of the State shall be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.
    • Basic Experience/Education: Applicant must possess one or a combination of the following:
      • Work experience requiring the ability to read, comprehend, and apply written directions, or a high degree of verbal skill.
      • Graduation from high school.
    • Specialized Experience: One (1) year of full-time work experience which involved general chairside assistance to dentists performing examinations, fillings, extractions, and the treatment of various oral conditions; cleaning and sterilizing equipment, preparation and mixing materials for fillings and maintaining dental records. Such experience may have been obtained by assisting a dentist in a private office or in a private or public clinic.

  • Driver's License: Applicants must possess a valid driver's license at the time of appointment.

    • The examination for this recruitment will be conducted on an unassembled basis where the examination score is based on an evaluation and rating of your education and experience.
    • In-person interviews and/or further testing in Hawaii may be required at the discretion of the hiring agency.
    • If in-person interviews and/or further testing is a requirement, applicants who meet the minimum qualification requirements and are referred to the vacancy must be available to participate in person and at their own expense in this required phase of the selection process.
