Duties & Responsibilities
- Prepare patients for treatment by reviewing medical histories, positioning them for procedures, and ensuring comfort and reassurance throughout the visit.
- Assist the dentist chair-side during examinations and procedures by anticipating needs, handling instruments, suctioning, and maintaining a clear operating field.
- Prepare, mix, and handle dental materials such as fillings, cements, and impression compounds as directed.
- Take, develop, and mount dental radiographs (X-rays) following safety and quality protocols.
- Record treatment information, chart findings, and update patient dental records accurately and confidentially.
- Provide postoperative instructions and communicate patient care directions as directed by the dentist.
- Clean, disinfect, and sterilize instruments, equipment, and operatories in compliance with infection control standards.
- Perform basic maintenance and lubrication of dental equipment to ensure proper function and minimize repairs.
- Maintain appropriate inventory of dental supplies and report reorder needs promptly.
- Clean up the treatment area after each patient to maintain a safe and clean environment.
- Cover the waiting room and reception area when needed.
- Coordinate patient follow-up appointments and support front office communication regarding scheduling and records.
- Ensure confidentiality and security of patient health information in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
- Support the Dental Director and Chief Medical Officer with required documentation, reports, and special projects.
- Participate in team meetings, safety reviews, and training to ensure continuous quality improvement and compliance.
Requirements
- Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Certification: Graduate of an accredited dental assisting program with current Dental Assistant certification.
- Experience: A minimum of 6 months to one 1 year of experience in a dental clinic setting is preferred; however, new graduates who have their certification are encouraged to apply.
- Other Requirements: CPR certification, knowledge of electronic dental records, and HIPAA compliance are required.

Physical & Environmental Requirements
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting; occasional lifting of items >50 lbs.
- Normal range of motion, vision, and hearing required.
- Must be able to assist or lift patients as necessary.
- Regular exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, radiation, and clinical cleaning agents.
- Work may require irregular hours and involves exposure to bodily fluids (position is considered at-risk for occupational exposure).
