About the role
We are seeking a Dental Assistant to support the Veteran community in the Orlando, FL area. This position is open to all candidates, including Locum or Traveling professionals.
Logistics
- Pay: $22.84+ an hour
- Contract Type: 1 base year with 4, 1-year option periods
- Schedule: Office Hours: 6:30 am to 8:00 pm
- Location: 13800 Veterans Way, Orlando, FL 32827
Responsibilities
- Show courtesy, respect, and a positive attitude for patients, co-workers, and the public
- Assist customers with questions or concerns and provide service recovery
- Provide chairside assistance with setup and operating equipment for planned dental procedures and clean the dental unit for timely turnover
- Pass instruments safely, accurately, and efficiently
- Keep operative field clear of debris and retract oral tissues effectively and comfortably
- Prepare dental medicaments and impression materials per manufacturer's instructions
- Produce images characterized by diagnostic quality, accurately oriented and exposed; utilize dental imaging safety techniques, minimize retakes, and accomplish imaging requests within the desired time frame
- Demonstrate proper infection control procedures in setting up and cleaning up operatories
- Properly prepare instruments for sterilization by SPS standards
- Demonstrate proper infection control procedures in exposing images
- Assist patients in scheduling appointments
- Assist in filling gaps in the doctor's schedule due to late cancellations and failed appointments
- Assist dentist in charting findings and treatment plans in patient record
- Maintain patient confidentiality per HIPAA with written and verbal information
- Participate in patient identification and time-out per Joint Commission requirements
- Take impressions for diagnostic casts and preliminary impressions for prosthetic fabrication
- Remove temporary crown/bridge and clean tooth preparation of debris
- Re-cement and fabricate temporary crowns
- Provide post-operative and other appropriate patient education
Qualifications
- Authorization to work in the U.S. permanently, without sponsorship
- Successful completion of a 1-year dental assistant program accredited by the American Dental Association's Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA)
- 1 year of experience as a dental assistant
- A Dental Radiological Certificate is mandatory
- Dental Radiation Health and Safety Examination Administered by the Dental Assisting National Board, Inc.
- Successful completion of the Principles and Practice of Dental Radiology and Radiographic Safety courses and examinations developed by the Assistant Under Secretary for Health for Dentistry
- Successful completion of a radiation health and safety program or examination approved by a state board of dentistry or the Department of Defense (DoD)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) or Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- Previous experience with the VA is a plus
- Certification by the Dental Assisting National Board (DANB) is a plus
