Position Summary
The Dental Assistant works under the supervision of the Dentist, assisting in the direct provision of primary care dental services to patients at the center. Responsibilities include working with patients, preparing operatory for treatment, sterilizing instruments, maintaining records, and participating in safety programs.
Responsibilities
- Works under the supervision of the Dentist.
- Aids patients in resolving minor difficulties, answering questions, and providing directions.
- Assists Dentist in chair-side procedures.
- Prepares operatory for patient treatment according to protocols and the Dentist's directions.
- Exposes and electronically processes digital images, evaluating them for diagnostic quality.
- Performs independent procedures as delegated by the Dentist.
- Maintains sterilization of dental instruments and ensures they are washed, ultrasonically cleaned, dried, bagged, and autoclaved.
- Ensures instruments are properly inventoried and stored after the autoclaving process.
- Maintains compliance with Dental Department directives and protocols regarding infection control, exposure control, and safety.
- Keeps operatory supplies adequately stocked and compiles a list of shortages for inventory control and ordering.
- Uses proficiency in Electronic Medical Records.
- Prepares and sets up instruments, materials, and equipment for each procedure.
- Maintains unit logs and compiles laboratory data.
- Participates in safety programs, including emergency response teams.
Requirements
- Graduate from an accredited dental assistant program.
- One to two years of dental experience in a healthcare setting is preferred.
- Basic Life Support for providers through the American Heart Association is required.
- Bilingual English/Spanish is preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 is required.
- Active New Jersey Radiological Technology License is required.
- Certified Ambulatory Surgery Sterile Processing Technician within six months of hire.
