Brief Description

KANA’s standard work schedule is 37.5 working hours per week, typically consisting of 7.5 paid working hours per day plus a one-hour unpaid lunch break (total of 8.5 hours on site per day). Assists Dentists, Dental Health Aide Therapists, and Dental Hygienists in the direct provision of primary care of dental services to the beneficiaries of Kodiak Area Native Association. Actively working towards certification with the Dental Assisting National Board (DANB).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support the organization’s mission and goals, quality standards, and patient-centered medical home philosophy.

  • Uphold KANA’s Code of Ethics by conducting professional activities with honesty, integrity, respect, fairness, and good faith in a manner that reflects positively upon the organization.
  • Continually strive to improve patient experience and quality of care by focusing on optimal patient access, continuity, and team-based care.
  • Prepare patient, sterilize and disinfect instruments, set up instrument trays, prepare materials, and assist dentist during dental procedures.
  • Take and record medical and dental histories and vital signs of patients.
  • Expose dental diagnostic x-rays.
  • Make preliminary impressions for study casts and occlusal registrations for mounting study casts.
  • Learn to pour, trim, and polish study casts, fabricate custom impression trays from preliminary impressions, clean and polish removable appliances, and fabricate temporary restorations.
  • Aid dentist in managing medical and dental emergencies.
  • Instruct patients in oral hygiene and plaque control programs.
  • Provide postoperative instructions prescribed by Dentist.
  • Record treatment information in patient records.
  • Schedule appointments and maintain accurate clerical records including correct coding procedures and chart notations.
  • Provide coronal polishing and fluoride treatment services with appropriate certification.
  • Regularly travel by small plane to provide dental services to the village communities as assigned.
  • This position may be assigned an admin role as needed for continuity of care in the Dental Department.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent and one year of experience required.
