Dental Assistant

About the role

The Indian Health Service employs Dental Assistants to support oral care initiatives aimed at improving the health of American Indian and Alaska Native communities. This role involves assisting dentists in various procedures, maintaining aseptic techniques, and educating patients on oral hygiene.

Responsibilities

• Assist the dentist in all phases of restorative and surgical procedures.
• Maintain aseptic technique and sterilize instruments.
• Expose and process dental radiographs following radiation-safety protocols.
• Educate patients on oral hygiene and post-treatment care.
• Support dental clinic operations, maintain supplies, and manage patient records.

Requirements

• U.S. Citizenship is required.
• Selectee may be subject to a probationary period.
• This position requires a background investigation and successful completion of a federal background check.
• Must successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
• Must demonstrate financial responsibility and satisfy all legal financial obligations.
• Must meet the minimum qualifications and pass a background investigation.
• Education and training requirements for different grade levels.

Qualifications

• Basic Requirement(s): Credentialing standards in 42 CFR Part 75.
• Specialized Experience: Providing chairside assistance, setting up instruments, recording treatments, and exposing oral x-rays.
• General Experience: Demonstrating ability to perform the work of the position or familiarity with subject matter/processes.
