About the Role

Perform all functions related to the role of a dental assistant in the Oral Medicine Service, focusing on the management of medically complex patients. Responsibilities include chairside dental assisting, exposing digital panoramic and intraoral x-rays, setting up and cleaning exam rooms, maintaining dental units and equipment, and ensuring infection control. Additional duties involve consent processes, review of systems, medication reconciliation, photography, patient intake, chart documentation, and patient/family education.

Responsibilities

• Perform all dental assistant duties in the context of patient medical conditions and current status.
• Assemble information for patient intake, including review of systems, medication lists, consents, and photography.
• Assess patient oral conditions relative to medical status prior to x-rays and visits.
• Expose digital and intraoral x-rays.
• Maintain dental units, panoramic and intraoral x-ray equipment, computers, and monitors.
• Perform administrative duties such as contacting outside providers for records, maintaining schedules, and distributing updates.
• Complete forms, scribe examinations, and assist with room turnover and other tasks as needed.
• Maintain sterile/aseptic infection control and isolation procedures.
• Provide patient and family education regarding processes, consents, and x-ray details.
• Ensure compliance with Washington State and Fred Hutch rules, including Blood Borne Pathogens, HIPAA, and JCAHO standards.

Requirements

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Washington State Dental Assistant Registration (including completion of the registration application and associated fee).
• BLS certification.
• Minimum of 3 years of clinical dental assisting experience.
• Clinical excellence with strong, consistent, and effective skills.
• Ability to provide meaningful education, information, and motivation to patients and families.
• Integrity, reliability, flexibility, and attention to detail.
• Excellent rapport and ability to connect with patients, families, staff, and faculty.
• Supportive and engaged with the mission of Fred Hutch and the Oral Medicine Service.

Preferred Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Dental Assistant Program.
• Commitment to lifelong learning.

Pay

The hourly pay range for this position is from $27.01 to $38.45, with pay offered based on experience and qualifications.

Schedule

1.0 FTE (40 hours per week), fully onsite in Downtown South Lake Union. Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.
