Clinical Responsibilities
- Provide expert chairside assistance to the dentist across a full range of procedures including preventive, restorative, cosmetic, implant restorations, oral surgery, root canals, periodontal disease treatment, Invisalign, and emergency dentistry
- If EFDA-certified: perform expanded function duties as authorized under Iowa state law, including placement and finishing of restorations, application of sealants, and other EFDA-permitted procedures
- Prepare operatories, instruments, and materials prior to each appointment and ensure the dentist has everything needed at hand
- Take and process dental radiographs in compliance with Iowa state regulations
- Sterilize and maintain instruments and equipment following strict infection control protocols
- Ensure patient comfort and provide calm, reassuring support throughout every phase of treatment
- Take dental impressions and assist with lab tasks as directed
- Document medical histories, record vitals, and maintain accurate patient records in full compliance with HIPAA
- Provide post-treatment instructions and oral hygiene education (brushing, flossing, nutritional counseling)
Administrative Support (as needed)
- Welcome patients and manage check-in and check-out
- Schedule and confirm appointments using practice management software
- Answer phones and assist with patient inquiries in a warm, professional manner
- Support billing, supply ordering, and other office tasks as directed
What Makes You a Great Fit
- Iowa EFDA certification or Iowa Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) registration, issued by the Iowa Board of Dental Examiners — either credential is welcome
- Current Iowa Dental Assistant Registration required
- Current CPR certification required
- Calm, patient-centered presence
- Detail-oriented and precise; you follow protocols carefully and never cut corners
- Strong proficiency with dental practice management software and digital radiography
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with patients of all ages and your colleagues alike
