About the role

The Prosthodontic Exam Performer (PEP) works under a dentist’s supervision to perform prosthodontic exams for implant treatment planning. The PEP collaborates closely with Patient Education Consultants to deliver world-class patient care and may perform duties such as removing sutures, processing x-rays, and taking oral impressions for crown fittings. Previous hygienist experience is desired.

Responsibilities

  • Support and assist Patient Education Consultants (PECs) in patient treatment acceptance.
  • Collaborate with doctors and clinical staff to ensure patient adherence to treatment plans, including medical clearances, interventions, and self-management goals.
  • Provide chair-side assistance while dentists examine and treat patients.
  • Prepare materials for impressions and restorations, take dental x-rays, and process x-ray film as directed by a dentist.
  • Support and assist dental and surgical assistants, including cleaning trays, room setups, and cleanups.
  • Ensure patient comfort, prepare them for treatment, and obtain dental records.
  • Review Prosthodontic Evaluation paperwork, consents, and medical history with patients.
  • Complete needs assessments for high-risk patients.
  • Manage medical clearances and follow up on patients with delayed treatment.
  • Coordinate with front office, Prosthodontist, and Oral Surgeon regarding patient health, lab scripts, and treatment plan finalization.
  • Review and clarify medications with patients and communicate with their medical doctors regarding health history concerns.
  • Educate patients on treatment plans, phases, consent forms, and pre- and post-operative instructions.
  • Correspond with other doctors and physicians to obtain patient medical clearances.
  • Obtain dental records, including impressions, x-rays, intra- and extra-oral pictures, bite registration, and face bow as instructed by the dentist.
  • Obtain medical records and health registration (conditions, medications, allergies, etc.).
  • Assist with other patient appointments as instructed by the dentist.
  • Participate in marketing efforts to increase patient lead generation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Dental hygiene experience.
  • Dental implant experience (desired).
  • Current certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
  • Must be reliable, work well with others in a fast-paced environment, and have good manual dexterity.

Working Conditions

  • Work in a well-lighted, clean environment, typically near the dental chair.
  • Wear gloves, masks, eyewear, and protective clothing to protect against infectious diseases.
  • Follow safety procedures to minimize risks associated with x-ray machines.

Physical Requirements

  • Regularly work in an office environment and walk the floor, sometimes for extended periods.
  • Able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Able to stand for extended periods.
  • Able to keep hand and arm steady while moving or holding in one position.
  • Able to make precise, coordinated movements of fingers to grasp, manipulate, or assemble small objects.
  • Able to quickly and repeatedly adjust machine controls to exact positions.
  • Able to bend, stretch, twist, and reach with the body, arms, or legs.
  • Good multi-limb coordination (coordinating two or more limbs while sitting or standing).
  • Good trunk strength (ability to use abdominal or lower back muscles continuously without fatigue).
  • Ability to shift between multiple activities or sources of information.
  • Good manual dexterity for safe, skillful use of instruments in the mouth.

Pay

$26 - $32 per hour (based on experience and certification).
