Duties & Responsibilities
- Utilizes the electronic dental record and digital radiography
- Ensures operation of dental equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements, following manufacturer's instructions, troubleshooting malfunctions, calling for repairs, maintaining equipment inventories and completing training on new equipment.
- Performs a rotation through the simulation lab and participates in emergency code drills in preparation for medical emergencies.
- Maintains dental supply inventory and reports supply needs to appropriate staff member.
- Scans all sterile instruments received daily from SPD into the SPM (Sterile Processing Maintenance) system.
- Prepares dirty instruments for sterile processing in decontamination room and scan/records patient information cards into SPM system.
- Prepares treatment room for patient by reviewing EPIC schedule on Dental Clinic Snapboard.
- Prepares patient for dental treatment by welcoming, confirming patient identity and Legal Guardianship, comforting, seating and draping patients.
- Prepares instruments and tray setups, equipment and materials at the chair-side for dentist’s access during patient care.
- Takes radiographs and scans into MiPacs and EPIC using digital radiography procedures and equipment.
- Performs pediatric prophylaxis including providing patients and parent with oral hygiene instruction and demonstration.
- Affords assistance in dental urgent and walk in procedures that occur in the clinic and/or Emergency Department by preparing treatment room, and ensuring accessibility of instruments, equipment and materials during procedures.
- Anticipates instruments needed by dentists throughout the procedure and ensures timely access of instruments.
- Affords assistance in sedation and PC/OR procedures, with supervision.
- Updates patient health history, patient chart and other patient documentation in EPIC.
- Complies with OSHA regulations, infection control protocols, CHCO patient safety policies, Joint Commission regulations, National Patient Safety Goals (NPSG), and QSRS filing.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED
- Five years of chair side dental assistant experience may substitute for graduation from a Dental Assistant certification program.
- Current CPR certification and Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification.
