About the role
The Dental Assistant 2 (DA2) position reports to the Chair of the Dental Hygiene Department and the Operations Manager. This individual performs specialized clerical and technical duties to coordinate and provides patient support services for the Eastern Washington University Department of Dental Hygiene Clinic.
Responsibilities
- Greet and facilitate department visitors, dental clinic patients, service people, vendors, prospective dental hygiene students, and current dental hygiene students.
- Answer telephones, triage patient telephone calls to faculty, students, and staff; obtain necessary information for the return call; take messages from dental patients regarding appointments; facilitate dental patient appointments as directed.
- Take or transfer messages for faculty.
- Respond to inquiries regarding department services.
- Update automated messages regularly.
- Communicate various types of information to patients, referral agencies, departments, physicians, and other healthcare providers.
- Coordinate and assist with administrative tasks related to patient care, such as scheduling, record keeping, and inventory management.
- Assist with the preparation of patient records and forms.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- At least two years’ experience as a dental assistant or other position involving patient contact in a dental clinic setting.
- Current Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) certification and registration through Washington State Department of Health.
- Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS).
- Proficient in MS Word, intermediate to advanced word processing skills.
- Demonstrated interest, ability, and/or experience promoting cultural competency, universal accessibility, and/or diversity.
- Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor.
- Demonstrated ability to apply a responsive and flexible approach that is supportive of the needs including universal access of our students, faculty, staff, and the public.
Qualifications
- More than two years of experience as described above.
- Experience with third party billing of dental procedures.
- Demonstrated knowledge of dental terminology.

- Attention to detail and accuracy in record-keeping.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
- Basic computer skills, including proficiency in MS Word.

Pay
- $43,010 (minimum) up to $49,820 (prorated for 10-months).
Schedule
- Regular Work Schedule: Mondays – Fridays, 8 AM to 5 PM.
